「時」を表す前置詞【in】【on】【at】って、どれを使ったらいいか悩みますよね。
基本イメージは下の図のように、【in】【on】【at】の順番で具体的になる！というのを押さえておけばいいと思います。
でもこれは万能薬ではないので、もう少し詳しく見ていきましょう。

「前置詞」は英語で「prepositions」なんですね。「時」を表す前置詞は3:00から！
【in】
長い期間
「○年」「○月」「季節」「○年代」「○世紀」「過去」など、長い期間に使われます。
- I was born in 1986.
- He’ll visit them in October.
- The ski resort is closed in summer.
- He grew up in the seventies.
- It happened in the 16th century.
- It all happened in the past.
「in the morning」系
「in the morning」「in the afternoon」「in the evening」ですね。
「at night」は【at】になるので注意しましょう。
- I work most productively in the morning.
- The baby sleeps in the afternoon.
- They’re leaving in the evening.
〜後
「○分後」「○日後」「○週間後」のようにも使えます。
- I’ll be ready in five minutes.
- He’s gone away but he’ll be back in a couple of days.
- You can collect your parcel in a week.
【on】
カレンダーのここ！のイメージです。曜日
「○曜日」「○曜日の朝」みたいに使います。
- She is working on Monday.
- She usually works on Mondays.
- We’re going to the theatre on Wednesday evening.
- Let’s have a coffee on Friday morning.
- It’s his birthday on Saturday.
日付
「×月○日」
- The interview is on 29th April.
- He was born on February 14th.
特別な日
「バレンタイン」「クリスマスイブ」「誕生日」「元日」など
- She was born on Valentine’s day.
- We are moving house on Christmas Eve.
- I have an exam on my birthday.
- What are you doing on New Year’s Day?
注意
「週末」はアメリカ英語とイギリス英語で使う前置詞が違うんですね。
- What are you doing on the weekend?🇺🇸
- What are you doing at the weekend?🇬🇧
注意
「on New Year’s Day」と「at New Year’s Day」で意味が変わるんですね。
「on New Year’s Day」だと「元日」で、「at New Year’s Day」だと「年末年始」のイメージでしょうか。
【at】が一番具体的って言われてるけど、この場合は【on】の方が具体的ですね。
【at】
時計の時間
「×時○分」「noon」「midday」「midnight」「dawn」など
- The rain arrive at 3:30.
- The party starts at midnight.
- The meeting will finish at five thirty.
- I’ll be there at noon.
〜time
「lunchtime」「bedtime」
- I’ll go shopping at lunchtime.
- I read my daughter a story at bedtime.
ピンポイント
- She’s working at the moment.
- She’s a little busy at present, can I get her to call you back.
- We arrived at the same time.
- I finish the course at the end of April.
注意
「night」は時間の幅があるので【in】ぽいですが、【at】なので注意しましょう。

注意
thisを付けると「前置詞」も「冠詞（the）」もいらない。
「night」は「tonight」になります。

まとめ
「時」を表す前置詞をマスターするには、①基本イメージを押さえて、②ネットなどから補強して、③ネイティブが実際にどのように使っているのかを海外ドラマ（映画）で確認するといいのでしょう。
前置詞は適当に発音されるので聞き取るのは難しいですが、海外ドラマ（映画）だったら字幕が出るので確認しやすいと思います。
