「場所」を表す前置詞【in】【on】【at】の使い分けって難しいですよね。

基本は下図のように【in】【on】【at】の順番で具体的になる！というのを押さえればいいと思います。

でもこれは万能薬ではないので、もう少し詳しく見ていきましょう。

車の仲間は【in】

グループ

注意

「取締役会」「委員会」などは【on】なんですね。

He’s on the board.
They’re on the committee.

He’s spilled ice-cream on his new jumper.

平面

The supermarket is on the corner of Martin Street.
Nice is on the south coast of France.

注意

この場合は【in】なんですね。

Nice is in the south of France.

海・川・湖

What’s that on the water?
We’ll take you out on the lake.

【at】

公共の場所

I studied Design at college / school / university.
Let’s meet at the station.
Turn left at the traffic light.
We have to stop at the supermarket on the way home.
There was a crazy guy at the library today.

住所

They live at 14, Eagle Road.
I’ll meet you at the corner of Beach Street and Park Road.
I had a coffee at Helen’s house.

イベント

We met at a party.
He’s speaking at the conference later this week.

まとめ

「場所」を表す前置詞をマスターするには、①基本イメージを押さえて、②ネットなどから補強して、③ネイティブが実際にどのように使っているのかを海外ドラマ（映画）で確認するといいでしょう。

前置詞は適当に発音されるので聞き取るのは難しいですが、海外ドラマ（映画）だったら字幕が出るので確認しやすいと思います。
