tellの代表的な３つの使い方
目的語に「人」をとって、「前置詞」や「接続詞」を続けるのが代表的な使い方です。
tell 人 of 〜
He didn’t tell me of his father’s death.
彼は私に父の死のこと話してくれなかった。
tell 人 that 〜
A line of pink on the eastern horizon told me that daybreak was near.
東の地平線上に一筋の薄赤色が出て夜明けが近いことがわかった。
tell 人 to 〜
Would you stop telling me how to drive?
運転の仕方をあれこれ言うのはやめてくれませんか？
tell型動詞
他の「tell」と同じ形をとる動詞（tell型動詞）５つを合わせて覚えておくと便利です。

tell型動詞の受動態
目的語の「人」が主語にきて、受動態になることが多いです。受動態になる際、元々の主語は消えています。
主語 convince(s) me of his innocence.
I am convinced of his innocence.
僕は彼の潔白を確信している。
主語 convince(s) me that he is innocent.
I am convinced that he is innocent.
僕は彼は潔白だと確信している。
主語 told me to do that.
I was told to do that.
